Sensory Integration Work Across the Multidisciplinary Team

USensory Integration Education (SIE) invites you to attend our free live online symposium on Monday, 6 October 2025 10am - 12 noon (UK time). This unique event, this year replacing our virtual conference, brings together a wide range of professionals to tackle the big questions about how sensory integration fits within multidisciplinary working. Whether you’re an occupational therapist, speech and language therapist, nurse, physiotherapist, social worker or another allied health professional, this event offers you valuable sensory CPD that directly connects to your professional context. You’ll gain insight into how sensory integration is understood and applied across disciplines and what needs to happen next to make safe, equitable and evidence-informed sensory support available to more of the people who need it.

Influence the Future of SI

Your input, along with expert discussions, will inform a roadmap for advancing SI practices across disciplines.

Why Now?

Right now, sensory integration is in the spotlight—but not always in ways that serve the best interests of clients or professionals. There is confusion about: - Who can safely assess and advise on sensory needs - What training is needed for different levels of practice - Which terminology and frameworks are evidence-based - How sensory integration fits within professional standards Unclear roles, outdated guidance, inconsistent gatekeeping, and misinformation are limiting access to support and holding back progress. That’s why we’re gathering thought leaders and frontline professionals to explore how we can build shared standards that protect both clients and practice.

Grounded in Standards. Focused on Solutions.

This conversation brings together the thinking from different disciplines as the first stage of creating the standards of practice for sensory integration and processing work across the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). Our starting point draws from three key frameworks: 1) The NHS One Workforce model (2021): promoting integrated, person-centred care 2) SCIE Logic Model for Integrated Care (2024): encouraging collaboration and role-sharing 3) HCPC Standards of Proficiency (Standard 3, 2024): maintaining scope of practice while developing new knowledge

Panel and Contributors

We’ll be announcing the panellists soon, but we are delighted to confirm that Amy Stephens, MRCSLT BA(Hons) PGDipSLT(Dist) MA(Dist), Consultant Speech and Language Therapist and Advanced Ayres Sensory Integration Practitioner, will be chairing the symposium. This multi-perspective event reflects the real-world team context that so many of us work in—and the real need for clarity and collaboration around sensory-informed practice.
